ModCloth: Uniquely You Challenge

Just last week I received an email from ModCloth's Lead Stylist Amy about their weekly Polyvore Challenge, Uniquely You.

My mission: Amy sends an item and I build a complete look incorporating said item...post it to my blog and that's that!  Oh, and there is a contest...the winning outfit gets featured on ModCloth's Polyvore page.

Allow me to breakdown my selections.

Featured Style: When the Night Comes Dress in Nior by BB Dakota Available Here
Earrings: Dramatic Style Earrings Available Here
Coat: Press Preview Coat Available Here
Bag: Cambridge Satchel Upwardly Mobile Satchel Available Here
Shoes: Waltz With Me Heel Available Here
Shapewear: Smooth Your Soul Contouring Shorts Available Here

It wasn't much of a challenge to complete this outfit...you can't really go wrong with an LBD...but I'll explain why I chose what I chose.

I wanted to keep it simple and elegant, the earrings are beautiful but they don't compete for attention with the dress.

The coat  however is a statement piece...and here's why...I find that often during the Fall and Winter Season I end up at an event that I don't want to remove my coat at because it's just too cold.  I hate getting dolled up only to have my outfit hidden by my outerwear...it's like doing a slammin job on your eye makeup and you're stuck wearing sunglasses the whole day!

The bag is simple yet versitle, it can be worn day to night...I'm a proud owner of a Cambridge Satchel bag and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

The shoes are classic and versitle as well, I'm a big fan of buying something that you can wear more than once.

Lastly, the shapewear...not for the purpose of slimming and smoothing but in the interest of protecting myself from chafing...if I'm not wearing pants, tights or leggings I need these puppies in my aresenal!

I hope you like what I've put together...let me know what you think...leave your comments below!

Exclusives

Online only exclusives that is!

This post is a PSA for online shopping.  On a daily basis I hear people gripe about shopping for clothes online...something along the lines of "I just can't, I need to try it on first.".  Well, I'll tell you why you should be shopping online...maybe I can change your mind!

1. Retailers have product online that is only available...you guessed it ONLINE!
2. Some retailers are online only...if their shipping and return policy doesn't totally suck what do you have to lose?!
3. Ever go to a store and everything you like is gone in your size (story of my life)?  You could have shopped online!

Dress-Torrid Online Exclusive/Shoes-Reef

I got this dress online at Torrid...it was an online exclusive and I'm so glad I bought it. The dress I had planned to wear to our Luau in Maui wasn't working out minutes before we needed to head out the door, so I opted for this one!  I had originally intended for this dress to be my casual shopping dress that I could pop on over my tankini...but I'm glad it got its own time to shine!  As for me taking these pictures after eating a five course meal with an open bar...maybe not my best idea yet...but I was on vacation!

I shop almost exclusively online...if I don't know what size I am I order what I think and then one size up as well and return what doesn't work.  I read about the shipping and return policy and make sure I'm not going to lose money if I don't like the product.  Lastly I read both the product copy and customer reviews...it's important to know everything you can about the fabric, the cut and the fit of the product as well as garment care.

Hope this helps!  Happy Shopping!
