Resolution

So I'm anti resolutions usually...people don't keep them...they are usually pretty crazy...and I don't agree with them being set once a year, if you want to change something just do it.

That said, my friend and blogger of The Curvy Fashionista Marie Leggette posted the video below to her facebook page recently asking "Are you guilty of this?" and I had to say yes.

I'm guilty of "Fat Talking"...I figure people are already thinking these things about me so if I say them jokingly I'm in control...but it's sad.  I want to be a mother...like yesterday...and I wouldn't want to pass "Fat Talk" on to my children.  And honestly, "Fat Talking" about myself doesn't do any good...so...I'm going to do two things.  I'm going to make a New Years Resolution but I'm starting it now!  It's going to be hard, all habits are hard to break...but this is a habit that needs breaking.

I'd love to hear your thoughts...post your comments below!

ModCloth: Uniquely You Challenge

Just last week I received an email from ModCloth's Lead Stylist Amy about their weekly Polyvore Challenge, Uniquely You.

My mission: Amy sends an item and I build a complete look incorporating said item...post it to my blog and that's that!  Oh, and there is a contest...the winning outfit gets featured on ModCloth's Polyvore page.

Allow me to breakdown my selections.

Featured Style: When the Night Comes Dress in Nior by BB Dakota Available Here
Earrings: Dramatic Style Earrings Available Here
Coat: Press Preview Coat Available Here
Bag: Cambridge Satchel Upwardly Mobile Satchel Available Here
Shoes: Waltz With Me Heel Available Here
Shapewear: Smooth Your Soul Contouring Shorts Available Here

It wasn't much of a challenge to complete this outfit...you can't really go wrong with an LBD...but I'll explain why I chose what I chose.

I wanted to keep it simple and elegant, the earrings are beautiful but they don't compete for attention with the dress.

The coat  however is a statement piece...and here's why...I find that often during the Fall and Winter Season I end up at an event that I don't want to remove my coat at because it's just too cold.  I hate getting dolled up only to have my outfit hidden by my outerwear...it's like doing a slammin job on your eye makeup and you're stuck wearing sunglasses the whole day!

The bag is simple yet versitle, it can be worn day to night...I'm a proud owner of a Cambridge Satchel bag and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

The shoes are classic and versitle as well, I'm a big fan of buying something that you can wear more than once.

Lastly, the shapewear...not for the purpose of slimming and smoothing but in the interest of protecting myself from chafing...if I'm not wearing pants, tights or leggings I need these puppies in my aresenal!

I hope you like what I've put together...let me know what you think...leave your comments below!

Exclusives

Online only exclusives that is!

This post is a PSA for online shopping.  On a daily basis I hear people gripe about shopping for clothes online...something along the lines of "I just can't, I need to try it on first.".  Well, I'll tell you why you should be shopping online...maybe I can change your mind!

1. Retailers have product online that is only available...you guessed it ONLINE!
2. Some retailers are online only...if their shipping and return policy doesn't totally suck what do you have to lose?!
3. Ever go to a store and everything you like is gone in your size (story of my life)?  You could have shopped online!

Dress-Torrid Online Exclusive/Shoes-Reef

I got this dress online at Torrid...it was an online exclusive and I'm so glad I bought it. The dress I had planned to wear to our Luau in Maui wasn't working out minutes before we needed to head out the door, so I opted for this one!  I had originally intended for this dress to be my casual shopping dress that I could pop on over my tankini...but I'm glad it got its own time to shine!  As for me taking these pictures after eating a five course meal with an open bar...maybe not my best idea yet...but I was on vacation!

I shop almost exclusively online...if I don't know what size I am I order what I think and then one size up as well and return what doesn't work.  I read about the shipping and return policy and make sure I'm not going to lose money if I don't like the product.  Lastly I read both the product copy and customer reviews...it's important to know everything you can about the fabric, the cut and the fit of the product as well as garment care.

Hope this helps!  Happy Shopping!

Almost Famous

When I shop for myself I fall in love with the pieces I find...become obsessed even.  But I'm not made of money...and I'm not to "that level" where Brands are throwing clothes my way all the time so I have rules...

1. If I can stand to look at it for two weeks straight...and I still have to have it...I'll buy it.

2. If I can't think of a place I can wear it to...but I just love it...I'll just pass.  Nothing is more torturous than owning something you'll never wear!

3. Lastly...if I'm in love...and I mean over the moon about it...and I think it could sell out...I'm going to buy it...no regrets!

Jacket-Simply Be/Top-ASOS Curve/Jeans-Torrid/Shoes-Jeffrey Campbell

I had to have this shirt...Almost Famous...if you know me you know why I have to have it and it has nothing to do with the movie.  As for the jacket....that was one of those Over The Moon pieces.  The jeans were a no-brainer...they fit like a dream!  And these shoes...well it took me weeks to find them online in my size so I didn't hesitate to buy them and I'm so glad I did.

As for outfit planning this is what I wore when Chastity of Garner Style came to meet me for lunch.  To me...she's famous so that makes me almost famous!

Thanks for coming to have lunch with all of us Chastity...and thank you for taking these pictures...you've got skills girl!

I Need Your Help...

Torrid brought back their Halloween Costumes this year...the only issue...you can only get them online and all returns must be mailed back.  This means shipping fees...the thing I find most annoying about online shopping.

So, I need your help...I've selected my top favorites...but I just can't decide.  That's where you come in...I thought my readers could help me pick!  Just leave your comments below and tell me which one I should buy!

Pick One: Captain Swashbuckler

Pick Two: Thief Of Hearts

Pick Three: Top Gun Flight
Pick Four: Skull & Roses

There are many more costumes available online HERE so be sure to check those out...and if you think I'm leaving out an option from the vote be sure to suggest something!

I can't wait to see what you guys pick!

Here's the skinny!

Sometimes it's who you know...and I know some amazing people!  I was lucky enough to be able to get together with the team at Torrid HQ again recently...I wasn't in the building more than a few minutes and they had a new bra for me to wear test and minutes later their latest rinse jegging too!  SCORE!

I popped behind a screen to try on the new jeans...everyone wanted to know what I though right away...and to be honest I wanted to know how they fit as well. Um...amazing!  I'm pretty sure I said they felt like how I imagine pajama jeans should feel but way cuter...and don't judge me...but I wore them for a week straight after that. I only switched things up to wash them!  I keep getting complements on how flattering they are and I have to say I feel slimmer in them...so you can see why I wouldn't want to take them off!

Skeptical?  My thoughts are my own...I was honest with the Team at Torrid...I only wear what I like and if I find issues with something I'll say so!

I totally tried to do a hair flip to look like the girl in the wall art...fail!  But I had fun doing it!

Oh Canada

Hey Canada!

Sorry for the late heads up...but if you didn't notice your Old Navy website just got a new addition...as of August 15th you now have Women's Plus online!  I've been shopping their site for years now...so as an old pro let me show you the ropes.

As an Old Navy shopper the things I love about their online shopping experience:
1. Free shipping when you spend $50.
2. Returns are and exchanges for Women's Plus are free by mail both ways...sorry ladies...no in store returns.
3. They offer a great selection of fashion and basic pieces ranging from size 16-30.

Sequin Chiffon Tank

The Rockstar Printed Jean

I'm in LOVE with this sequin chiffon tank and these printed jeans...but other favorites include their yoga jacket, compression pants, compression capris and sports bra...their active wear is AMAZING!  I'm always checking new arrivals for their great fashion tops...and they always have something new each season with their Rockstar Jeans.  Don't even get me started on their pajamas...I have a collection...super cute and comfortable!

More to come though so be sure to check back for the inside scoop!  Leave your comments and questions below...I'd love to hear from my neighbors to the North on what you think!?!

Good Carma

I've been lusting after pieces from Carmakoma for who knows how long, but along with higher retail there was also the high cost of shipping so I've never completed the checkout process.  As an active online shopper I HATE paying for shipping...I will try anything I can to keep from paying for it...but now I don't have to worry about that...because ASOS Curve just started selling select pieces from Carmakoma!!!

I know...totally exciting right!?!

Clockwise from the top: Carmakoma Jumpsuit $229.10/Carmakoma Tailored Jogger $161.22/
Carmakoma Quilted Leather Look Sleeve Bomber $303.76/Carmakoma Lace And Mesh Body $101.82
Of all of the pieces above I have to say I'm obsessed with the Tailored Jogger...it's not a bad price to pay for a great pair of black pants that can be worn multiple ways...and something tells me they'll get many complements.

What do you think...anything you love?  Have you heard of Carmakoma?  Ever made a purchase from Carmakoma?  Or were you like me...always looking and unable to get over the shipping costs?  Leave your comments below!

On the Path of Destruction

I've been on, what seems like a life journey at this point, for destructed denim...that I would actually wear.

After attending the Torrid Bloggers event in March I found these lovelies...and don't get me wrong they were exactly what I was looking for...but with wear the hole by the horizontal arrow grew and grew...and the hole with the vertical arrow tore to the north getting dangerously close to the hole that was already growing!

I'm lucky enough, well to not only have a job, but to have one that I can wear denim to...daily...even with holes!  That said, once my holes above started to grow a bit I no longer felt it was professional to be wearing these to work.  So I was super excited to see that Torrid has come out with the best possible option for me...

Ripped & Repaired Sophia Skinny Jeans
$64.50
Available Here

With only one hole actually exposed to flesh...at the knee (perfect placement)...these jeans still allow me to participate in the destructed denim trend while looking way more professional!  I know you might scoff at the statement of destructed denim being professional...but I work in the fashion industry so totally professional!

Let me know if you're on the hunt for anything...leave your comments below...I can help!

Get In Where You Fit In

I've said it before...women's plus active wear is hard to come by...so when Jeana Moriarty, the woman behind The Eleana Collection reached out to me to help spread the word about her active apparel and the upcoming launch of her website I knew I wanted to help!

A personal trainer, Jeana Moriarty's clients were complaining about the lack of options in fitness apparel for women with curves.  "Our goal was to not only provide these options, but to also provide apparel that could be worn beyond the gym.  Our coordinating jackets were designed to be worn after the workout to run errands, etc.  We have found that many of our clients love these clothes for traveling and shopping as much as they do for working out.  Like the famous, lulu lemon line, our clients want clothes that can be worn for everyday life as well.  Lulu goes up to a size 12, but they went on record to say that "It's too expensive to make larger clothes for women that are not active."  We want to prove that just because you are not a size 2, does Not mean you are not active!  The media, with the help of photo shop has given women unrealistic views of what real women look like.  We hope to build women Up not tear down their self esteem and confidence.  Our logo "love being a woman" came about because we want to encourage woman to love themselves wherever they may be on their wellness journey."

Jeana goes on to tell me that "Every woman should have her "go to" motivating outfit.  The one she puts on and makes her feel like she can "get it done".  Whatever that "it" is. Not every woman will agree, but as a trainer I have witnessed my clients having a much better attitude about themselves and their abilities when they feel they look cute in their attire.  An over sized T-shirt and sloppy sweats may be fine for some, but my experience is when you look put together, you feel more able to accomplish your goals."

A few pieces from their current line...

I love every bit of it...how could I not show my support!?!

See something you like?  Leave a comment below with your email and I'll send you a discount code for your first purchase.

What can you expect?  Launch date is set for July 24th. Clothing is made of high grade supplex and dry fit.  Pants are made with a 4'' waistband with power mesh inside to help hold things in place with a comfortable compression fit and they offer 3 different inseam lengths.  Oh, and free shipping for all purchases over $100!
